Updated to use Flightgear.org in place of UMN.

Now supports NOAA weather and Flight Planning software!

These changes bring enhanced realism plus better support for non-USA flying.

I enjoy flying X-Plane with real weather and in 1998 created a simple program to automatically keep the weather data up-to-date. Over the years, WeatherMe has evolved to track changes in X-Plane as well as user requests. WeatherMe's goal is to operate without human intervention and to do one thing well. Here is a snapshot of WeatherMe running on Mac OS X.

This status window is displayed in the lower left corner of your display. WeatherMe checks for new weather every 20 minutes. Starting with Release 3.0, the user now has a choice of three different sets of weather data: two from NOAA plus the Flightgear.org (nee UMN) site. Flightgear.org remains the default so if you fly destinations outside the USA you may want to select one of the NOAA options in the Preferences dialog. The user's choice of weather data is saved in a preference file. I caution against assuming NOAA is the best source for data. In my experience, it is less reliable than UMN though it does have the advantage of more extensive geographic coverage. For more information, please see the Readme and NOAA text files in the WeatherMe package.

This program has been tested on both Mac OS and Windows. If you have Java installed (included in all modern Mac OS releases and some Windows systems) you might want to give it a try.

Flight Planning the GoodWay

WeatherMe now supports the GoodWay flight planner! GoodWay is the best X-Plane flight planner there is providing a wealth of features including the ability to transfer your flight plan information directly into X-Plane (departure airport, date/time, GPS and ILS settings, and so forth). Click on the image below to visit GoodWay's home page and find out how this tool can make your flying both more realistic and more enjoyable.
